I will start to train intensive, so far my body feels really good after the marathon in Eindhoven and the pacing in Amsterdam. It was very important to give my body some rest after these efforts. Good luck with your training and next races. Below a picture by Serge Caelen. Greetings Lander
I had a great weekend with Jesse Stroobants in Amsterdam. We were asked to pace the elite women. In the afternoon (saturday) we arrived in a stylish hotel to meet the race directors and the other athletes. One guy looked really relaxed and at the same time he looked eager to run, his name Michel Butter (picture by Losse Veter). Born and raised in the north of the Netherlands. Michel ran 2h 09' 58" over the 42,195 km (his average speed = 19,48 km/u). Congratulations to Michel and his coach Guido Hartensveld for this result! Very inspiring performance for every "mzungu". I know Michel as an ambitious hardworking athlete, so the best is yet to come. Both course records were crushed by Wilson Chebet (men 2u 05' 41") and Meseret Hailu (women 2h 21'08"). Jesse and me are very happy with our little contribution to this great result for Hailu. We ran as even as we possible could on the desired pace. (Jesse till 35 km, I till 32 km) Afterwards everybody was really happy so overall a superb weekend, special thanks to Jesse for the nice company and the perfect teamwork. Now I will focus to train on my speed, my right leg is still injury free! Yeeha! Greetings, Lander. Incredible result for me after the months of poor training and the low mileage. My coach Henri Salavarda convinced me two weeks ago, to give it a go in the marathon of Eindhoven because I only run 2 marathons a year. Personally I didn't want to start in Eindhoven after my result and the pain in my right leg during and after the Dam tot Damloop (3 weeks ago).
This week the chiropractor managed to crack my lower back and hip. In the process he must have unblocked the nerve that caused troubles with my right adductors since 09 april 2012. The day after my visite on Tuesday I already felt my right leg was more powerful. Now it was time to turn the mental switch in my head and to focus on running 42 km as hard as I could. The race: Pacemakers are worth their weight in gold or at least my pacemakers proved their unprecedented value :-) Their names: Jesse Stroobants and Jamal Baligha. Thanks guys !!! Patrick Stitzinger and Willem Van Schuerbeeck were my associates in our compact group. We asked the pacers to pass the half marathon point at 1h 07' blank, in reality we passed in 1h 06' 59", believe me: this is outstanding pacing. When the pacers left the race our pace immediately slowed down a lot. Willem accelerated at the 30 km mark, I found it a little bit too soon and stayed together with Patrick. Afterwards at 35 km I closed the gap one time with Willem but then he accelerated again. At the end Willem was too strong for me, he ran a great 2h 16' 13" and Patrick became Dutch marathon champion in 2h 16' 51". The strongest belgian was Abdelhadi El Hachimi with a superstrong 2h 11' 53". More results marathon Eindhoven: Stijn, Koen, Harm, Florent, Dieter, Guy, Nico and Philip. Some post-race thoughts It's a good thing to put my marathontime in the right perspective: the winner Dickson Chumba (KEN) ran 2h 05' 44'' he averaged 20,1 km/h over 42,195 km. When you run a marathon at this pace, running becomes art. This marathon was a unique experience for me. It is not a miracle because the years of training made it possible to run this time. Nevertheless without problems the future of my marathon time looks bright. Tomorrow their will follow some pictures. Thank you for all the support! Greetings Lander. In order to focus on my running, Eva and me went one week to Font Romeu. Below a photo impression. During my hill training with some sprints at the track I was really flying, but the day after my right leg fell completely apart. Besides the running part it was a fantastic week with special thanks to Koen Wilssens from www.rslab.be. Greetings from Eva & me! Step 1: Just click on the picture to open the link
